Engineering notes
Clarity in a finance app starts with the ledger
How Finerva connects exact money representation, encrypted local data and shared-expense boundaries.
Represent the amount and its currency together
Finerva moves money as integer minor-unit strings paired with a currency. Integer and decimal arithmetic preserve amounts across transactions, transfers and reports; visual formatting stays separate from the financial rules.
Connect the interface to a coherent local ledger
An encrypted on-device database holds the working ledger. Related changes are applied together through a serialized writer, and local projections support the interface. Synchronization uses versioned outbox mutations and an incremental change feed.
Keep shared costs separate from personal finances
The shared split engine handles allocations across client and server. Membership checks and private account mappings keep group expenses and settlements distinct from a person’s own ledger.
